    Description

I was introduced to Leigh Taylor Wyatt about 20 years ago when I was visiting a very old friend in my home town who lived across the street from this artist's studio.  Leigh demonstrated a technique to us that she called "pulling straws" if I'm remembering correctly. My younger brother's first girlfriend was Leigh's older sister way back when, as a matter of fact.  I didn't know Leigh before that day but I did remember her sister who was older.  I bought this "vessel" from her while I was in town and have had it with me ever since. It's a beautiful piece, very like her current work. Honestly, I think her work rivals Murano in the beauty category. This vase is signed, dated, and in perfect, flawless, very colorful condition.  I've never used it for anything other than display.  It's never had flowers or water in it and it looks perfectly wonderful sitting on a window sill where the light can shine thru it.
Leigh lives and works in Austin these days and her artwork is hot, if you'll pardon the pun. I've included a couple of photos of two of her works that have sold.  Her pieces have sold on Live Auctioneers and Cherish and she's becoming internationally known.
I translated this excerpt from Objetos con Vidrio written in 2011. "Working with glass since 1993, Leigh Taylor Wyatt uses traditional Italian glass blowing techniques such as Murano reed, and takes advantage of the transparency of glass to achieve distinctive colors and lines. She has always loved patterns, and using Murano techniques gives her endless options to achieve them. For her, the world is made up of patterns and textures, she sees them in nature, people and cultures.Glassblowing requires teamwork, it is a complex and intimate process that requires constant attention. Hot glass cannot be neglected for a moment.Take advantage of the contrasts often found in material, such as translucency and opacity, and try to exploit them in your work. From the earliest design stages to the final polishing of the part, Wyatt knows that passion is directly in the process." Maria Eugenia
