*****Here is an old timer story about this vintage barber pole from a former neighbor and friend, long passed, rest his soul. Frankie, as his wife Carol called him, was a transplanted New Jersey longshoreman enjoying retirement in the warm sunshine of Florida. In time, he learned my wife and I collected antiques. One day he invited us over. In his garage he proudly unveiling this barber pole, sharing his memories and its history. This was his barber pole. From his Jersey town. How it was so proudly displayed in front of the barber shop he frequented as a youth and throughout a demanding full adult life. He remembered, from its sidewalk placement, how the pole beckoned everyone inside to share life experiences with the wise barber and its diverse patrons. It was magical, educational and informative, each and every visit. Then on a dark overcast day, November 22, 1963, our 35th president John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Within a few days the disheartened barber closed his shop..forever. For sentimental reasons Frank brought the pole with him to Florida. To him it was more than an weathered barber pole. It was a symbol of a full life recognized and remembered. He honored us by sharing the story and then to our surprise with this barber pole.*****
